Frankfurt is an international financial center, a hub for transport and a trade fair location. From an economic point of view, the German metropolis is one of the world’s major cities, which is also noticeable through its high-rise skyline. Frankfurt is the seat of the European Central Bank, the Deutsche Bundesbank, the Deutsche Börse, numerous financial institutions (including Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, DZ Bank, KfW) and the supervisory authorities BaFin and EIOPA.
For decades, constant internationalization has ensured that Frankfurt has been very multicultural in comparison to other European cities. More than 50% of the residents now have a foreign passport or a migration background. There is a tangle of different languages on the streets and English is the language of choice in the professional world for many international companies. The developments around Brexit also ensure that companies and people from all over the world come to the Frankfurt financial center.
Central Location and Quick Access
International and Highly Livable
Officially, only around 750,000 people live within the city limits of Frankfurt, but the entire FrankfurtRheinMain Metropolitan Area is home to almost 5.8 million people. This makes the region one of the economically strongest in all of Europe. On average, skilled workers in Frankfurt earn around 20% more than in other German cities.
But Frankfurt is not all about work. Hardly anywhere else in Germany you encounter such great concentration of life in an international metropolis, nature, and culture. Short paths lead into the green, such as the Taunus or the Odenwald mountains. Around 574,000 hectares of forest and recreational areas are available for sports and leisure activities. That corresponds to almost 39 percent of the regional area.
Numerous renowned museums, institutions, and festivals such as the Frankfurt Fashion Week ensure a lively cultural offer. This makes FrankfurtRheinMain a wonderful place to live and work.
Fintech and Blockchain Hub
There are a number of startups and innovative companies in the financial sector in Frankfurt. Historically, however, many people choose to work for one of the many financial companies because they pay very well. However, the fintech community continues to grow every year and new technologies such as blockchains and decentralized finance are increasingly working together with established financial companies.
